Minneapolis family, six children tear gassed after they were caught in clash between ICE and protesters

A Minneapolis family of eight returning home from a basketball game became trapped in their car between federal immigration agents and protesters, after which tear gas filled their vehicle, causing a 6-month-old infant to stop breathing and requiring his mother to perform CPR. Destiny Jackson, 26, told CNN her family had no idea a protest was happening and pulled over only because the road was blocked, but found themselves surrounded by federal agents on both sides of the car with no way to escape. When a tear gas canister rolled under their vehicle and exploded, the airbags deployed and the doors auto-locked, trapping the family — which included six children ranging from six months to eleven years old — inside a smoke-filled car until bystanders helped them escape and took them into a nearby home. DHS said agents had deployed crowd control measures against rioters, but Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said the family was simply caught in the middle, and a federal judge subsequently placed new restrictions on immigration agents' use of crowd control measures against peaceful protesters in Minnesota.
